Chainalysis put DPRK-linked crypto theft near that for the year, and about $6.75 billion since 2017. Bybit alone was about $1.5 billion.

The pair

Monero does not print who got paid. $LAZARUS sits on it because that was where the small machines paid home.

The record

They outgrew the office PCs.

A unit later rolled into the Lazarus name took that one server and aimed it at Monero. About seventy coins came off the machine. The same umbrella then left the piggybacked computers behind.

The February 2025 Bybit theft was ether, not monero. The FBI called that job TraderTraitor, also tracked as Lazarus. In October 2026 ZachXBT said a Chinese network had moved more than $1 billion of that kind of money.

The pair is the joke and the history. The quiet coin first. The exchange raids after.
